Marco Rubio is a politician and American Senator, who currently serves as Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee.
Childhood
Marco Rubio was born on May 28, 1971, in Miami Florida. His parents emigrated from Cuba in 1956, three years before the Fidel Castro revolution. They did not become a US citizen until 1975. Many Rubio relatives then came from Cuba as refugees. He has three siblings, Mario and Sisters Barbara and Veronica. Mario and Barbara are older than Marco, while Veronica is younger. Rubio attended South Miami South Miami, graduating in 1989. He received a football scholarship for Teetio College in Missouri, but he only stayed one year there, before transferring to Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. In 1993, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida. In 1996, he got the title of Juris Doctor from the University of Miami Law School. Then, he said that he had $ 100,000 in a student loan, which he did return in 2012. During his studies, he was intended for various Republican politicians, including working on President Bob Dole’s campaign in 1996.
Political Career
Rubio ran to the Florida House of Representatives in 1999. He barely won the Republican nomination, defeating Angel Zayon with only 64 votes in the runoff election. He continued to defeat Democratic candidate Anastasia Garcia with a landslide 73%. Next year, he ran for re-election without being the most popular. He spent four terms at the Florida House of Representatives. While there, he also worked for law firms in Miami and in 2004, he got a position on Broad and Cassel. In 2005, Rubio became a home speaker, becoming the first American Cuban who held the position.
Senate United States
In 2009, Rubio announced that he would run for chairs in the United States Senate. He defeated the Governor of Florida Charlie Christ in the primary and won the general election with 49% of the vote. In 2015, he joined the race for the republican president’s nomination but broke up after losing the Florida Caucus to Donald Trump. Instead, he ran for the Senate again in 2016 and won with 51% of the votes for Democratic candidates Patrick Murphy.
Personal life
Rubio married Jeanette Dousdebes and they have four children. The family lives in West Miami.
